About the Issue

Columbus, Indiana is a city with much to be valued. It is a nationally recognized architectural hub, has a tight-knit community for a city of its size, and is often recognized as one of the best U.S. cities to raise a family.

However, within Columbus exists a dark problem: people are going hungry and are living without shelter. Whole families, lone teenagers and veterans, and others with nothing more than perhaps the companionship of a loving pet are being left out on the streets.

These people are thought not to exist, or are thought to have caused the challenges they now face. What most people don’t recognize, however, is the fact that homelessness can affect anyone for any number of reasons.

What CHIRP, Inc. hopes to bring to the community of Columbus, Indiana is the realization that, no matter the circumstances, nobody deserves to suffer from homelessness.

About CHIRP, Inc.

Our History

CHIRP, Inc. began as the Columbus Homeless Independence and Resiliency Program (CHIRP). The organization was formed in order to address the underestimated, and therefore neglected, issue of homelessness in the city of Columbus, Indiana.

Our Mission

CHIRP, Inc. is dedicated to assisting homeless individuals and families in their transition to independence, self-sufficiency, and well-being.

The organization works with people from all backgrounds, and maintains contact with each client to ensure his/her success.

Why We Care

CHIRP, Inc. was formed from a group of individuals who understand that homelessness can affect anyone for a number of reasons, and that a person's living situation does not define who a person is. We recognize that the successes of our programs and of our clients depend upon the support of the community, and that the people of Columbus, Indiana can make great accomplishments when made aware of the struggles of their friends, family, peers, coworkers, and fellow citizens.
